Terms of Service

Last updated: 30 June 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CronCanary (the "Service"), a hosted cron-job and scheduled-task monitoring tool. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

CronCanary monitors scheduled jobs using a "dead man's switch" model: your job pings a URL on each run, and if an expected ping is late or never arrives within its configured grace period, CronCanary notifies you through the alert channels you configure (email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, or webhook). Monitoring is provided on a commercially reasonable, best-effort basis. It is a safety net, not a guarantee — see Section 7.

2. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address and keep your password secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these rules or that threaten the stability or security of the Service.

4. Plans, billing & refunds

The free plan is offered at no cost. Paid plans (Solo and Pro) are billed in advance through our payment processor, Stripe; we do not store your card details. Plan limits (check counts and log-retention windows) are described on our pricing page.

Refunds: if you are not satisfied, contact us within 14 days of a charge and we will refund that billing period. You may cancel at any time from the billing page; cancellation stops future renewals, and access continues until the end of the paid period. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods beyond the 14-day window.

5. Your data

You retain ownership of the data you submit (check definitions, ping payloads, channel configuration). Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

6. Service changes & availability

We may modify, add, or remove features. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service and may perform maintenance. Free-plan features may change with reasonable notice.

7. Disclaimer & limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. CronCanary is a monitoring aid and does not guarantee that every missed, late, or failed job will be detected or that every alert will be delivered. You remain responsible for the operation of your own systems and for independent safeguards on critical workloads.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CronCanary AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM (OR USD $50 IF YOU ARE ON THE FREE PLAN).

8. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms or for non-payment. On termination, your checks stop monitoring and associated data may be deleted.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, by notice in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
